Meymune N. Topçu is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at MEF University, Istanbul, where she brings an interdisciplinary approach to her research on collective memory, future thinking, and social cognition. Meymune earned her B.A. in Psychology and History with honors from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. She then pursued graduate studies at the New School for Social Research in New York, where she completed her M.A. and later a Ph.D. in Cognitive, Social, and Developmental Psychology in 2021. During her doctoral work, Meymune developed a research focus on how perceived agency and cultural narratives influence perceptions of the past and future, a theme she continues to explore.
In 2023, she joined MEF University, while also holding an Honorary Visiting Scholar position at Washington University in St. Louis. Meymune’s research has been published in journals such as JEP: General, JEP: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, and Memory. In her ongoing funded research, she focuses on how collective memory and future thinking frame the experiences of collective anxiety. She also explores how these processes influence people's perception and evaluation of and behavior on existential threats like climate change, nuclear disasters, pandemics etc.
İnayet Dinçer is currently pursuing an MSc in Neurocognitive Psychology at Carl von Ossietzky University, with a research focus bridging cognitive neuroscience and social cognition. İnayet's work spans various EEG and neuromodulation studies, providing substantial experience in EEG data acquisition and analysis, particularly within cognitive and socio-cognitive paradigms. Notably, İnayet contributed to a TÜBİTAK 1002-funded study investigating dehumanization dynamics within minimal groups, exploring how group size and status influence this phenomenon. Additionally, İnayet has presented research findings in poster sessions at national conferences, including studies on the relationship between negative mood states and the truth effect. Outside of academic work, İnayet enjoys spending time with friends, learning German, and watching anime.
